Bangladeshi former captain Shakib Al Hasan again top of the top
number one day international (ODI) cricket. It proud of us as a Bangladeshi.
The latest official ICC rankings had the Magura southpaw 13 points
clear of his Australian rival on 415 points.
Apart from the 6-month reign by the Australian, Shakib has enjoyed the top spot since April 2009. His drop to number 2 in the rankings was precipitated by a lean patch at the beginning of the year, while the big-hitting Watson took his spot courtesy of some good form during the Australian summer as well as a decent World Cup and a red-hot ODI series in Bangladesh in April.
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has reclaimed his number
1 ODI all-rounder's spot after having surrendered pole position to Australia
all-rounder Shane Watson earlier this year in April.
“Such achievements always
inspire me to keep performing well,” said Shakib. “This time I will try to hold
on to my position for longer.”
In the ODI bowling rankings, Shakib is currently in joint 9th
position, but the left-arm spinner said that he believes he can reach the top
of that table too.
“I believe that it is possible to achieve the feat of becoming
the number 1 ODI bowler if I can continue performing,” he added.
Shakib's rise owes much to his strong showing during the recent
3-match ODI series against West Indies earlier this month, during which he
scored 79 runs at 79, including an unbeaten 67 in the first ODI, and took 6
wickets in three matches at 16. His wickets haul included a man-of-the-match
performance in the 3rd ODI in Chittagong, where he took a career-best 4 for 16
to condemn the visitors to a crushing defeat.
